## Kites Wine Bar

Tel: 01904 641750
Small trendy bar where the music is played loud and the trendy seating makes this bar feel like it belongs in Leeds or London.

## Oscar's Wine Bar & Bistro
8 Little Stonegate, York, YO1 8AX
Tel: 01904 652002
This wine bar/restaurant is hidden behind a maze of streets in York. Once found, you can expect a nice, cosy haunt. It's very small, but you can always get a seat here, and most people opt for the food too as its probably the best bar food in town. The candle-lit tables inside are a nice touch. Oscar's has a lot to offer students with a chilled, friendly vibe and prices that won't eat a hole in your wallet.

## Pitcher & Piano
Evor Hall, Coney St, York, YO1 9QL
Tel: 01904 658580
Overlooking the River Ouse, the Pitcher and Piano is another 'classy' new bar. It attracts the trendy York crowd in town, setting it apart from most other bars and pubs. This doesn't mean it isn't student friendly - the bar is one of the only places that lets you 'rope' an area off for a private party for free. Students do come here, but the prices are by no means cheap. That said, on a Monday night the bar reverts to 80s prices, so all drinks are 40% cheaper than usual.

## Plonkers Wine Bar
5 Cumberland St, York YO1 9SW
Tel: 01904 655307
By the river, this bar has a friendly atmosphere with lots of cheap drink offers. Well placed near the Gallery nightclub, this place isn't terribly large, but big enough to get together with friends.

## Slug & Lettuce
The Courtyard, Back Swinegate, York YO1 8ZD
Tel: 01904 679900
So - it's a chain and you've probably been to one already - doesn't mean it's not good. Avoid at weekend, though, where there are far too many locals and far too few seats. A great stop-off before a big night on the tiles.

## The Last Drop Inn
The Last-Drop Inn,
27 Colliergate,
York,
YO1 8BN
Tel: 01904 621951
Web: http://www.thelastdropinn.co.uk/

With no jukebox, pool table, or games machines, a pub where you can enjoy a conversation, over quality food and drink.

## Wilde's
21 Grape Lane, York YO1 7HU
Tel: 01904 610370
Small candlelit tables with good food.

### YORK PUBS ###

## Charles XII Inn
Main St, Heslington, York, YO10 5EA
Tel: 01904 435931
Apparently, this pub was once the highest grossing in the North of England. Often dubbed the 9th bar of the university, it's a haven for students. Everyone comes here - it doesn't matter what you do - if you're a student you may as well get used to the idea that the Charles XII should, by now, be your second home. It's always busy, especially during the summer when the outdoor bar is open and people lounge in the beer garden. As it's a Yellow Card pub, prices are cheap too.

##Deramore Arms
Main St, Heslington, York YO10 5EA
Tel: 01904 413433
This is the other pub located in Heslington, the village nestled on the side of the university. Quieter and more of an old man's pub, you can expect to see many of the university sports teams here. Its very laid-back atmosphere means that if it's a quiet drink you are after, you're better off here.

## Hansom Cab
The Hansom Cab, Market Street; off Parliament Street has a lovely period wood panelled interior, buttoned leather seating complimented by excellent cask ale at a bargain price. Food abnd .sandwiches available from bar menu. A very popular pub.

## The Kings Arms
The Ouse Bridge. The famous pub that floods and nightime 8pm rendezvous for The original Ghost Waks of York.
Tel: 01904 659435
Located on the riverfront, this is THE summer pub, with plenty of tables to admire the view from. The Sunday lunches here are great too. When York floods, the Kings Arms is the first victim, and punters brave the weather to get their pints. Great fun with a lot of history to it.

## Lendal Cellars
26 Lendal, York YO1 8AG
Tel: 01904 623121
This Hogshead pub is underground, as its name suggests, and manages to remain very student friendly while being hugely popular with locals and tourists. It's right in the heret of town - but can get a little stuffy though!

## O'Neill's Irish Bar
in Low Ousegate, classic Irish bar with live sport on large screen.

## The Roman Bath
The Roman Bath pub in St Sampson's Square, baths are in the cellar - open 10.00am - 5.00 daily, the pub has live music most evenings also has beer garden at back.

## The Three Cranes
St Sampson Street, small friendly pub with good range of cask beers and lagers.

## The Victoria
1 Heslington Rd, York YO10 5AR
Tel: 01904 622295
Close to the Barbican and a string of Indian takeaways, this pub has a half student, half locals ratio. It's very popular, so go early on weekends if you want to make sure of a seat. The range of drinks is good and its location in York is a real plus.

## Yates Wine Garden
Lower Ousegate. Just around the corner from O'Neill's to Yates's Beer Garden - large, loud a
